Please indulge me as I add my two cents on the topic of this year’s recipients of Gotham’s Networker of the Year awards to Norm Spizz and Lucas Meyer.

When I first met Norm in 2000 I thought he was a funny guy.  Still do. But what I learned over time were his quiet ways, heart, compassion and commitment.  Norm goes about doing so much for Gotham in a quiet way.  The results are always the same; perfection, with every Gotham member satisfied and not realizing the amount of time and effort it takes to pull together each event, whether the annual golf outing, Holiday and Spring cocktail parties, Battle of the Bands, etc.  Norm is also committed to the kids he works with all year long on their robotic projects; the results of which are kids who are transformed and become interested in science.  To know the heart of Norm is to know he is an exceptional human being and we are blessed to have him in our lives.

Lucas Meyer!  What a guy.  Happy, enthusiastic, humble.  Lucas, like Norm, is all about YOU and how he help you.  Lucas will talk with you about you and what you do.  He will offer suggestions.  I have never heard Lucas ask for anything for himself; ever, unless it is family related.  When I was working in the city (now I am in Albany), Lucas invited me and a friend of his to lunch at his club so that us two ladies could get to know one another.  That kindness, and multiply that over and over again, is the very essence of Gotham.  

It just seems that Norm and Lucas are always paying it forward.
