Help for the "other" community
devastated by Hurricane Sandy

Those of us fortunate enough to have electricity and cable TV in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy are seeing the immense destruction of one community after the next.

We feel deeply for the people who have lost their homes and the trials of communities that have lost everything. These families simply don't know where to turn or what to do next.

There is another community that -- with the exception of a few video clips of a shattered storefront window or an ice cream parlor with windows boarded up -- is suffering. That anguished community, of course, is the small business community in the greater New York City area.

While we've heard stories of neighbors in residential communities with power inviting neighbors without to share meals and a shower, we are not hearing stories of how businesses that were spared the wrath of Hurricane Sandy are reaching out to those that, for whatever reason, are still waiting to get back to work.

Rick Raymond and I are stepping up to the plate to help those business owners that are in need. In some cases that help may come simply in the form of connecting those business owners with city and Federal programs for assistance in the form of emergency funding, temporary space, and disaster recovery.

In other cases, Rick and I are donating our time to work one-on-one with business owners to help them organize, strategize, focus on the most critical short-term activities of restoring their infrastructure, taking care of their customers and, most importantly, to let them know they are no alone.

Two issues face us as we move forward. The first is how to identify and reach those business owners in Manhattan that could benefit from and appreciate this support.

The second is that the need could be greater than we can provide personally. We expect there will be need other consultants, coaches, and business specialists.

If you are able to help either:

1) by connecting us to business owners whose businesses have been brought to their knees by Hurricane Sandy or

2) by donating your time and expertise along with us as a consultant, coach, or business professional...

Note: If in the event that we cannot personally help a business based their specific need, industry, location, or the size of their business, we will do our best to help connect them to one or more business professionals that can be of assistance.
