It really was an aw inspiring story. To hear that Bill Gates was using the YouTube lesson to teac his children reallly shows you how impressive Sal is. And, his mission statement to want to teach anyone and everyone a good education for free is a noble one to say the least! I was really impressed and touched by this remarkable story. The money raised by the Gates Foundation along with others has really enabled Sal to put together one impressive team to teach other courses too.

Subject: [Fredslist] Amazing story on 60 minutes last night about education

If you didn’t see 60 minutes last night, you missed an amazing story about the Khan Academy, a non-profit with the goal of providing a free education for anyone, anywhere.

The story was about a guy named Sal Khan who started teaching/tutoring his niece in math using lessons he recorded on YouTube. His sole goal was to help his niece. What happened was that others from around the world started using his videos to learn or teach their children. And because of the power of what he was doing and the power of YouTube, it took off.

He left his job as a hedge fund analyst to start the Khan Academy, which is a non-profit that now receives big funding from the likes of the Gates Foundation.

It’s an amazing story, especially if you have kids at any level in school…or simply want to learn something new yourself.
