[Fredslist] Another LinkedIn tip

Appreciate all the tips shared.
Here's one of my own that is rather obvious and I do not believe mentioned
I have not found the need to do this yet but another useful way to connect is to ask a colleague in common to forward the request.  That is something LinkedIn encourages.
It is certainly a good way to deal with the need to supply an email.
I must add I generally do not connect with someone I do not know.  I may reply back asking what brought me to the person's attention and for information about them (if the profile lacks information or is blocked).
I also generally will not stay connected to people where they block your ability to view their Connections.
And frankly anyone seeking to REALLY use LinkedIn should avail themselves of Marc Halpert's expert services on using LinkedIn.

If you look at the groups they are in, and join one of the groups they are in, you can connect without a need for an email address.
 
Also another tip – if you have the Linkedin App (I have it on the iphone), you can send a friend request that way, and the APP will not ask you for an email address even though the website will.

Another problem is that if you wish to connect to another LinkedIn member but if you do not have their email address, LinkedIn will not allow you to connect.  Does anyone know a way around this?

The problem with all this that when you just met someone and you have their email address LinkedIn does not allow you to add a note.  The person have to be a LinkedIn member to be able to send a personal note.

I agree. As encouraged by Marc Halpert I do not accept invitations 
If I don't actually know them. Adding a note would clarify who you are, and how you know them
