Fellow Gothamites,

Our leader Fred Klein noted how Black History Month (BHM) started off sadly with the loss of Don Cornelius, the muse of SoulTrain. Well, most days for the rest of BHM a real fun way exists to celebrate - the limited run of a revival production of Big River: the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at the Westchester Broadway Theatre during February - Black History Month. Big River - production by the Westchester non-profit Family Theater Company -runs February 2 - 26 with both matinee and evening performances. Throughout the month of February, audiences can experience this revival based on Mark Twain’s timeless classic which sweeps them down the mighty Mississippi as the courageous Huck Finn frees a slave and together they transcend the prejudice of their time. Through powerful dialogue and heartfelt song, a vibrant cast brings front and center the timeless themes of diversity, acceptance, respect and freedom. (see the performance schedule). One of the two leads, FaTye, who plays the slave Jim, grew up in the South Bronx, and has his own compelling story.

FYI, I link to a nice article about the production in Gannett's Westchester Journal News (It also explains the involvement of the producers.) which appeared this past Saturday.
The Family Theater Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the highest quality arts education to Westchester County and beyond for the purposes of improving self-esteem, building self-confidence, and empowering well-rounded, expressive individuals. The Westchester Broadway Theatre, New York’s longest running dinner theater, has a rich history of helping performers move to Broadway stages. This Bridge to Broadway is an extraordinary opportunity for professional performers to showcase their talents!
Linked please find a poster and 15-second video, with more details on the show. You can also learn more about the Family Theater Company at www.lytshows.org
Please consider being a part of a unique and exciting collaboration -- in Westchester County where a local legend partners with a dynamic local non-profit organization to provide young people with a showcase opportunity.
Please also share information about the performance to any friends and colleagues that you feel may be interested. Individuals and groups from all over have already purchased tickets to this exciting and unique performance. If you are connected to a youth, senior or other group who wish to attend as a group, there are special rates.
 Thank you.
Best.
Corey
