[Fredslist] Need equipment advice for handicapped Dad

I need to purchase a shower/commode chair for my Dad who is handicapped and
is transferred from his bed to wheelchair by hoyer lift.  My Dad was
really looking forward to actually taking a shower again when I purchased a
shower/commode chair online and then found out it was not an
appropriate fit for my father AND it is not returnable or covered by
insurance.  My hope is that someone in Gotham may know or be able to
evaluate my Dad for the proper size chair and also be able to determine
that it will work in his handicapped bathroom space so I don't spend more
money on something that is not returnable.  I called
Home Medical Equipment, the company from which my my father obtained his
wheelchair, but they told me I would have to bring my Dad to a rehab
facility to be evaluated as he was for his wheelchair.  The problem is, the
time involved for me to get him there and then the fact that no one will be
able to tell me if it will work with his bathroom space. Again, I don't
want to spend money on something that can't be used or returned.  My Dad is
86, has MS and very little muscle control.  I just want to purchase the
right equipment.  The shower/commode chairs I have seen in catalogs and
online are all different sizes and prices and it is very confusing.
