[Fredslist] non compete clauses

Hello,

I have a friend who signed a non compete agreement and the agreement states that this person cannot work in same job/industry for two years. Meaning they cannot work IT sales for 2 years which is what he knows how to do best. So basically this person would have to sell something else or get a different type of job????

That does not seem fair. How can someone else tell a person that they cannot work in their field of expertise? A few have told me that this would not hold in court....

Is this true? Can anyone shed any light on this?
