For the future, we did this after being riped off 2x for $400 each time a repairman came to fix out ice crusher and the electric switch to turn on the oven.

Look up the part on internet.  Buy it. Print out the instruction sheet on the internet that explains gorey details of take out old and put in new. Disconnect power.  Get screw driver, pliers and wrench. Follow instructions which any 6 year old can do, take out old, replace with new part, and fix it yourself.

Cost-whatever the part costs which is less than $100 in most cases.

Most repairs to appliances etc., are done by services that are contracted out, but maybe Sears is different. This whole area is ripe for rip-offs. It is very sad.

Here is a trick that I use for my clients and even myself.
Success ratio is almost 100%

Google the SEC Form 10K for Sears
Find the address for the corporate headquarters, usually on page 1
Find the name of the CEO, you will have to see the page in the index.

Write to the CEO and explain the problem.  Give contact info such as phone number and email.
Mail the letter Flat Rate Priority Mail with Delivery Confirm.  costs $5.65

You won't get an answer from the CEO but you will get someone at Sears that represents the CEO's office and gets these kind of problems solved.

Does anyone have any suggestions or an upper level contact at Sears who can actually resolve this? The Sears repairman broke my washing machine transmission with a hammer and I only wanted a plastic agitator seal replaced because when I pulled on the agitator to reach a sock in the back of the tub it came loose. The repairman didn't know how to fix the agitator because he said the plastic teeth at the top were intact but it was the seal at the bottom. He actually said "if it's the transmission they will have to send someone out to help me because it's a two man job." Then, he hit the metal shaft with a hammer and said it's the transmission and handed me a bill to order the transmission which would not fix the original problem.

Sears said they are responsible and they will replace my machine but I was caught between two departments. Since July the Escalation Dept tried to resolve the issue but the Repair Dept kept blocking them. Finally, in September, the Escalation Dept passed me off to the other dept. They said they have no power over the repair dept and when I asked who does they would not tell me. They said they would get back to me with my options. That was September 12.

I'm off to the laundromat. Help! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
