Council Member Seeks Communications Director 

 

A  New York Council Member seeks an entry level Communications Director for a fast-paced office.  Successful applicants will have a demonstrated ability to craft and implement an effective communications plan, and a knowledge of how to use social media to execute media strategies.

 
Working alongside the Council Member and Chief of Staff, the Communications Director will be responsible for day-to-day press outreach, such as writing press releases, public statements, newsletters and e-newsletters, as well as maintaining the Council Member’s website.

 
Candidates should be able to work as both independently and as a member of the larger team. Candidates must work well under pressure and be able to adhere to strict deadlines. Familiarity with City government is a plus.

 
Qualified candidates should have:

 
·         Ability to put together successful media events, including press conferences and rallies

·         Strong written and oral communications skills

·         Ability to create and efficiently manage contact lists

·         Proficiency in web design, email programs, and social media
