[Fredslist] A New Proposal for Willets Point ("WP")

I am aware of this and actually met with the proponents when they presented to the Queens Chamber.
The tech triangle might work but not the campus. As my son points out, you want to attract the students and locale for best minds matters; he does not think such students would want to attend there if they have other options and most will.
The best use for WP is a convention center. I am doubtful that the housing proposed there gets built; the remediation costs are great and the financing will not happen because insurers will not insure the loans due to the toxicity of the site. The housing was necessary to get City Council support for the current WP plan that City Hall advanced.

Now comes a fresh idea for Willets Point -- to transform Willets Point (or at least a part of it) into a sparkling Tech Triangle anchored by a university campus. In my opinion, this is one of the best ideas for WIllets Point, and it will be great for the economies of Queens, NYC and Long Island.
