Original guitarist of Stax Records house band Booker T. & The M.G.’s., Steve Cropper leads an all-star line up of Southern funk, soul and blues with Steve Cropper and Friends: Tribute to The “5” Royales with Bettye Lavette, Ellis Hooks & Dylan LeBlanc. Cropper has had a storied career, working with soul and blues legends such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and the Blues Brothers Band. This debut concert co-coincides with the release of his debut album on 429 Records—Dedicated—a tribute to R&B and doo wop act The “5” Royales who got their start in gospel in North Carolina in the early 1950s and were a strong influence on Cropper. Cropper’s band includes Muscle Shoals’ David Hood and Late Night With David Letterman drummer Anton Fig. Stax veterans The Bar-Kays w; the North Mississippi Allstars Duo, brothers Luther Dickinson (guitar and vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums and vocals), with their own brand of southern blues-infused rock and roll; and that force of urban funk, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, the New Orleans party band led by powerhouse trombonist “Big Sam” Williams, to kick off the evening’s proceedings.
