[Fredslist] my Colonoscopy adventure or "so the doctor ripped me a new one!"

Thank you Joel Schnur for your valiant disclosure. I'm not exactly Katie Couric, but cannot emphasize enough the importance of a
seasoned practitioner for any invasive medical procedure. Incidents like Joel's happen far more than we suspect. Even at great hospitals like  Mt. Sinai. Shame on whoever assigned such inexperience to someone with Joel's medical history,

Anyone ever see the George C. Scott movie, Hospital? Believe it.

I had a similar experience with a botched adult tonsillectomy at another leading hospital where I ended up on the hospital floor and several pints of transfusions. In this case the reason was negligence.

While this may not exactly be appetizing banter for Fredslist, it is a sobering admonition that one cannot be too cautious, too demanding or too knowledgeable: Demanding second opinions. And demand second lab tests (from another lab).

Hurry back Joel!

Subject: [Fredslist] my Colonoscopy adventure or "so the doctor ripped me a new one!"

In case anyone was wondering where I have been for the last two weeks, I have been recuperating from a colonoscopy gone awry.

I am sure that we have all taken colonoscopies from time to time, as least those of us who have intestinal problems or are past a certain age. This one taken for an update on my Crohn’s Disease by a new doctor and  left me with 10 stitches and 9 pints of blood.

No sweat but within an hour of arriving in the ER, I passed out while sitting on the edge of a gurney, with the guard rail down and the nurse just having stepped away and after they collected me from the floor, I had a swollen bruised foot which never allowed me to stand on my own during the week at Mt. Sinai. Yes, I know, I will be speaking with a lawyer to determine my possibilities. To add injury to injury, the trauma produced a gout attack incapacitating my right hand.

No it doesn’t get any worse and I am home and just about ready to lose the walker but next time someone wants to shove anything up your you know what be prepared. LOL!

All the best, to all of you, all of the time and Happy Holidays for whatever you celebrate.

Joel
