Community Organizer

The Fortune Society’s mission is to support successful reentry from prison and promote alternatives to incarceration, thus strengthening the fabric of our communities. We do this by believing in the power of individuals to change; building lives through service programs shaped by the needs and experiences of our clients, and changing minds through education and advocacy that work to rectify unjust criminal justice polices.

The Community Organizer is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit and organize Fortune supporters to further advocacy campaigns through membership recruitment, community mobilization, policy campaign development and coordination, coalition building and community education.

Our ideal candidate has two years community organizing experience, preferably in housing or employment; superior public speaking skills in both large and small group settings and familiarity with social networking tools including Facebook, Twitter, and blogs. etc. Candidates must be willing to travel and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Bilingual Spanish/English helpful.

The Fortune Society encourages individuals to apply who have successfully made the transition from incarceration and/or substance abuse into a stable, productive lifestyle in the community. The Fortune Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer and auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
