ADDABBO: APPLY NOW FOR 2011 EDNA A. LAUTERBACH SCHOLARSHIP FOR NYS NURSES
RNs, LPNs in District Urged to Apply for Scholarships up to $2,000 for Education to Further Their Careers

Queens, NY, April 5, 2011 – NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens), who serves on the Senate’s Education Committee, urges all registered nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in his district to apply for scholarships of up to $2,000 that can be used for tuition, books, specialty training and education, and other educational-related expenses. Senator Addabbo's District 15 includes parts of Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Glendale, Howard Beach, Kew Gardens, Maspeth, Middle Vilage, Ozone Park, Rego Park, Richmond Hill, Ridgewood, South Ozone Park, Sunnyside, Woodhaven and Woodside.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship, a fund established exclusively for New York State nurses that wish to further their careers in home and community-based care. Applications must be received by June 1, 2011. Scholarships will be awarded in August 2011, in time for the Fall 2011 semester. A copy of both the scholarship flier and the application are attached, or you may visit www.ednascholarship.org to download them.

Addabbo notes, “Nurses are essential to providing high quality care in home and community-based care settings and the demand for nurses is growing because of an aging population and consumer preference to receive care at home. This Scholarship Fund provides critical financial support for nurses looking to maximize opportunities in this growing market.”
For more information, call the Senator’s Howard Beach District Office at 718-738-1111 or his Middle Village satellite district office at 718-497-1630.

Edna A. Lauterbach was a nurse and respected leader in the health care community who believed that skilled nurses are essential to home care. The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship Fund, created in her memory, is supported by the Community Health Care Services Foundation (CHC), and was designed to encourage New York nurses to further their education in home care to address and support the needs of aging New Yorkers who want to remain in their homes and community.
The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship fund is managed by the Community Health Care Services Foundation, Inc. (CHC), an affiliate of the New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP), New York State's leading trade association representing 500 home care offices across the State. The Fund is managed by the Community Foundation for the Capital Region, Six Tower Place, Albany, NY 12203.
HCP is a statewide trade association representing the full spectrum of home and community-based providers. Through a strong network of regional chapters and an active State office in Albany, HCP is a primary authority of the health care industry.
