Subject: [Fredslist] Gotham poker night a huge hit

The Gotham poker night, held at the Friar's Club in Manhattan turned out to
be a rousing success. After initial concerns about filling all of the
tables, the event turned out to be a complete sell-out. The poker dealers
were of the highest caliber, as was the dinner and the pre-game ceremonies
(in this case a wine-tasting that if I'm not mistaken Fred talked the people
into letting us crash, lol).

As the game began, the players ranged from self-professed experts, to sneaky
sandbaggers, to average players with a minimal knowledge of the game, to
even people who (allegedly) knew nothing about poker and had to rely a list
to remind them which hands beat other hands (yes, I'm talking about you guys
Alan and Eliza...and yes we fell for it, lol). There was a friendly
atmosphere in the room as the cards and chips started rolling and players
fearlessly busted and bought back in for the first hour. Norman Spizz, host
of the event was gracious, yet coy, barely sporting a grin every time he
called for "the medic" and the prize money kept building.

It must be mentioned that the first person busted out of the game was our
fearless leader Fred Klein. They say that the smartest people in the world
know what they know, and know what they don't know. When Fred lost, there
was no buying back in, there was no second chances, he was out of the game
as if he had Lady Gaga partying in the Limo with the engine running. I
think we even heard tires screeching outside the hallowed halls of the
Friar's Club.

After the first hour, things started to get serious. The size of the pots
grew and hands started shaking as player after player was eliminated and the
tables were condensed until Alan "The Terminator" Klein knocked three
players out on one hand and only 8 remained. In the wee hours of the
morning (OK it was like 10:30) the tension grew thick til finally, Norman
Spizz, giddily sitting on a giant pile of chips all night like a leprechaun
on the proper end of a rainbow, finally pulled out the victory and won the
grand prize of $1,000. Jonathan Bernstein finished second earning $750, Mel
Lazar finished third for $500 and Judy Maur's sunglasses took fourth place
and $250.

A great time was had by all and they have discussed having more similar
events coming up in the near future. If you enjoy, poker, networking, good
food and/or just socializing with good people, give it a shot.

p.s. there is no truth to the rumors of a Congressional investigation into
Norman Spizz' victory...it was all on the up and up

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, we shall pay any
price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any
foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty. "

John F. Kennedy

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed
of ignorance and the gospel of envy. The inherent vice of capitalism is the
unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent vice of socialism is the equal
sharing of miseries. Some regard private enterprise as if it were a
predatory tiger to be shot. Others look upon it as a cow to be milked. Few
realize it for what it is - the horse that pulls the whole cart."

Winston Churchill
