I do understand that and had similar thoughts until Tony Hayward appeared before congress. My boycott is not meant to hurt the independent station owners but the reality is purchasing from them means he is correct in his smug attitude that they can do what they want because we will just keep buying from them. Had his attitude been different I would not be boycotting. I made a very conscious decision to drive past my local BP station this weekend when I needed gas - a decision I had not made prior to his testimony.

I see that the majority say they will boycott BP gas stations.  But, BP does not own most of them. Most are owned by individuals who have nothing to do with BP.
