 Dear Friends,
>
> Happy New Year! I want to let you know that I will be leading a study
> trip to Jerusalem and Jordan in May for the YMCA of Greater New York.
> Maybe you would like to join me or you know someone who would be
> interested. Details are attached.
>
> I've led this twice before, in 2006 and 2008. Both times, we had a
> marvelous experience. This trip is designed for people to (1)see the
> grass roots work of a concerned organization (in this case, the YMCA)in
> both Jerusalem and in the West Bank, (2) experience the city that is so
> important to 3 major religions, and (3) attempt to understand the
tensions
> that continue to impact the area. We will also visit Petra in Jordan, a
> World Heritage site where buildings are carved into the stone cliffs.
Our
> hosts will be the Jerusalem International YMCA and the East Jerusalem
> YMCA. We will stay at the Y in Jerusalem (the most beautiful Y in the
> world), a little conference center right on the Sea of Galilee and in a
> hotel in Jordan. The trip fee includes just about everything, including
> meals airfare from NYC.
>
> For many, this is a trip of a lifetime. It is not a pilgrimage though we
> visit sites that are holy to 3 religions. It is not just for people
with
> YMCA background, though Y board members, members and staff have
> participated. Its focus isn't political, though you will hear many
points
> of view while there. It is a tremendous opportunity to see for yourself
> one of the most important and beautiful cities in the world, through the
> eyes of people who live there.
>
> I would appreciate it if you would help me spread the word about this
> trip. If you have specific questions or want more information or would
> like to talk with someone who participated, please contact Chad Hiu at
the
> YMCA International Branch, chiu at ymcanyc.org or 1-888-477-9622. His
direct
> phone is 1-212-875-4328.
> I will out of the city until February 8 but will be happy to talk with
you
> after that. My phone is 212-666-4736.
>
> Best wishes to you. Bonnie Mairs
