Position: Senior Director of Development
Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Public Affairs, the Senior Director of Development will serve as the deputy to the Vice President and manage the day-to-day operations of the Development unit.  This includes and is not limited to fundraising from government, private foundations, individuals, and other sources.  In addition, the Sr. Director of Development will work closely with Capital Campaign Consultants and take the lead on executing   multi-year Capital Campaign.

The incumbent will be responsible for planning and implementing a Major Gift program in coordination with the Capital Campaign effort.  This position is supported by a Development Associate, two grant writers and a part time data entry clerk.  The Senior Director of Development will work as part of a team to strengthen the  relationships with funding sources through activities such as prospect identification, background research, solicitation and ongoing stewardship of government, private and individual funding sources.

Responsibilities:

 *   Manage day-to-day operations of the team, as well as a cohort of unit volunteers who help to achieve its mission.
 *   As required, take a hands-on role in the development of government grants, proposals, and other written materials, to ensure high-quality product and timely submission.
 *   Serve as a right hand to the Vice President of Development and Communications by assisting in overseeing the government and private foundation grants process in addition to other senior management projects.
 *   Conceptualize and launch an Individual Donor Recognition Program for donors of $1000.00 or more.
 *   Oversee the extraction of constituent information from Raiser's Edge to create financial analyses, spreadsheets, timelines, mailing-lists, and other reports as necessary.
 *   Support effective fundraising and grant reporting by monitoring spreadsheets to track non-personnel budgets, reporting on progress towards development department goals, and ensuring maintenance of complete and accurate electronic and paper files.
 *   Manage the processing by unit staff of gifts, acknowledgements, pledges, personal solicitations, on-line donations, direct mail stock gifts, bequests, and matching gifts.

 *   Support the Vice President of Development and Public Affairs in conducting confidential prospect research and analysis on key donors (including and not limited to biographical, philanthropic, professional, and personal financial information of donors and prospects).

 *   Oversee the preparation of fundraising solicitation appeal mailings in addition to compiling, packaging, and sending grant proposals to funders.
 *   Execute the day-to-day aspects of the $2 million capital campaign, including preparing staff and volunteers for solicitation meetings, organizing cultivation events and follow up activities, tracking the status of solicitation assignments and, where appropriate, soliciting campaign prospects for support in tandem with staff or volunteers.

Qualifications:


 *   Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; Master's/JD degree preferred.
 *   Five to seven years of management and fundraising experience in an organization heavily dependent on government grants.
 *   Demonstrated skill in government grant writing with a hands-on direct management style in this area.
 *   Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of institutional and individual funders is essential, including major gift and/or capital campaign experience.
 *   Comfortable interacting with a wide array of constituencies, including board members, major donors, clients, and community members.
 *   The candidate must be an excellent writer and have extensive experience in fundraising, managing volunteer leadership, and budgeting.
 *   Strong demonstrated history of effective management is essential.
 *   Must be detail oriented and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
