[Fredslist] Question regarding hearing aids for my mother

Gothamites,

Does anyone have any familiarity with obtaining hearing aids?  My mother is 
slowly but steadily losing her hearing and she's being told that she will need 
to spend around $5,000 - seems a bit steep but I have no idea.  Thanks.
