That is the question-or is it?
When first considering participating in the Gotham Mentoring program, I
wasn’t sure what role I was supposed to play, mentor or mentee. Well, the
confusion and intimidation washed away once I received the true context of
this program that is a stand for enrichment: it’s about a peer relationship
through which the partners support one another’s goals, declarations,
ideas; authentically listening, motivating and serving one’s partner
through caring feedback that brings forth accountability from the partner
in order to attain the objectives set forth. My partner is Andrea Gould, a
caring, professional, embracing individual with whom I have the privilege
of spending time with in our Gotham peer coaching once a month. She and I
make a commitment to meet, with great intentionality toward sincere, open
dialogue. What’s so great about the Gotham program is that it follows the
Gotham manner, where the peer coaching transaction does not have to “look”
or “feel” a certain way, other than the agreement the two people make to
decide what they want to accomplish, show mutual respect, and be sincere in
the comments shared and feedback offered.
For those already enrolled, I commend you for taking precious time to get
empowering work done. For those still considering and contemplating, there
is opportunity to behold through the one-on-one transaction between two
well-matched Gothamites. So, as Gothamites, each of you automatically gets
the benefit of the doubt as being sensible, well-intentioned, driven,
pragmatic, ethical, resourceful, caring, accountable, wanting-to-be-in
service, willing-to-be-heard, individuals. Therefore, give yourselves
permission to play big, participate with lots of heart, be better than who
we are alone, and create your own circumstances, however it might look and
feel, and say YES to Gotham Mentoring/Peer Coaching.
