[Fredslist] Web site design

Hi y'all,
 
My web site is in desperate need of a visual do-over. I'm not looking for
Flash or anything fancy. And, except for a couple updates, I don't think I
need to redo the content (although I'd appreciate your thoughts if you think
I should, but even then I can access the text to make revisions all by
myself). I just want it to have more sparkle and visual pizazz, as compared
with its current funereal look. 
 
So I've got two questions:
 
1. Does anyone have any idea how much designers charge for this kind of
work? I'd be especially grateful to hear from anyone who's had such very
basic work done.
 
2. Can anyone suggest or recommend a designer for a project such as this?

BTW, several of you have asked me to forward any responses I received to my
recent posting on Fredslist asking questions about Obama's Cairo speech. The
only responses I received were from other Gothamites asking me to forward
any repsonses I received.
