Update:

Here's some recent follow-up info, for your info:

Although Norton Internet Security didn't detect any problem at first, when I
scanned my computer immediately after possibly having become infected with
something from that "Facebook - private video" e-mail, it subsequently did
notify me of the presence of a security risk entitled "Downloader.Trojan."
NIS now tells me that it's removed this security risk and my computer is
secure.

It's a virus, with a risk level described in one report as "high" and in
another as "very low."

Additional particulars are available at:

BTW, now yet another Gotham member also has received it, through my e-mail
address (and others have received it through other Gotham members'
addresses, including from the one whose e-mail transmitted it to me). This
latest affected Gothamite showed me what he received, and it's a slightly
different version than what I'd received from the other Gotham member, so it
seems that there are several iterations of it. I'm not a computer expert
(Raj, any helpful advice for the group?), but I had my internet security
(anti-virus, etc.) software fix it, and you might want to either do
likewise, or contact your IT professional (such as Raj G.).

I hope this info is helpful.

Best,

DJA

Friends and colleagues:

There seems to be an e-mail virus ostensibly from Facebook going around,
among Gotham members. It says (with many misspellings) that it contains a
"private video" - it apparently self-replicates, and transmits itself to
addresses in one's e-mail address, which is why you may have received it. I
did a scan of my computer and it didn't turn up any infection.

If you receive any such e-mail from my e-mail address or that of any other
Gotham member, please know that we did not send it to you -- I received it
from another Gotham member, who in turn received it from someone else in
Gotham, and there's now at least a fourth generation of it. Please do not
open it for fear of infection - instead, delete it immediately.

Thank you.
