Chills ran up & down my spine when I heard Jon Stewart announce Obama's
election to the Presidency. Yeah, I had to watch something lighter.

And MCain's speech was quintssential McCain, heartfelt, honorable and
patriotic. I was touched to hear his salute to Obama his able opponent and
now his President -- spoken like a man true to his heritage of military
service. He acknowledged sincere sympathy for Obama's loss of his
grandmother. And he recognized that Obama bought out hope and the vote of
so many Americans who have felt disenfranchised. And the historic moment
this win signifies.

Months ago I spoke to my 87 year old mother in Florida about her feelings
about Obama and she admitted that it was hard for her to picture a black
face on the President of the United States of America hough she acknowledged
that this would not be the sole factor in her decision. I witnessed the
prejudice she grew up with and was surrounded by in the community where I
was raised. I had to admire her honesty even as I've seen her grow and
change with the times.

And today, she voted for Obama because she "just could not vote for
McCain". She admired Obama's growth & steadiness during this long race and
the excellent execution of his campaign.

I'm very proud of her and pleased that she lived to see this day and
appreciate it. It was my personal aha moment about the just how far we've
come since the voting rights act of 1964.

Look forward to reading the analysis in days to come especially about
changes in Congress. We need those changes to get our government to put this
country on a road to recovery and revitalization. We must make that message
clear to our those who govern. The election is just the beginning! Our own
work has just begun.
