[Fredslist] Gotham Gives Back: Give Blood Campaign (with new info)

The Gotham Motto.......It's better to give than to receive, but what comes
around goes around. This cannot be more true than when applied to donating
blood. The Long Island Blood Services' motto is "Give blood, save lives".
This is absolute truth and I know this first hand as explained below.

June 2, 2006, 11:01am - The best single moment of my life as I witnessed the
birth of my beautiful, healthy baby girl, Alexandria, which coincidentally
happened to be on my parents' wedding anniversary.

June 2, 2006, 7:30pm - The worst single moment of my life as I witnessed my
wife being administered her last rites.

The time in between was spent outside of an operating room in utter
disbelief as to what was happening as doctors tried to save Laura's life
while she hemorrhaged severely. In short, she bled to death more than six
times over and required more than 100 units of blood and blood agents. Yes,
more than 100 units!

Fortunately, because of donations, the hospital had an adequate blood
supply, she survived, and I am writing this as a happily married father
instead of a widowed single parent. I cannot advocate strongly enough that
you give blood. You never know when you or a loved one will need it.

The Gotham Blood Drive is Thursday, August 28th from 1:00pm-6:30pm at the
Milleridge Inn. Our goal is to donate 100 units through Gotham. Based on my
personal experience described above, if we meet that goal, Gotham will in
effect have donated enough blood to save my wife's life. I can only give one
unit and need 99 more people to show up and donate. Please see Ester's email

I wanted to remind each of you of about our blood drive - "Gotham Gives
Back: Give Blood"

We need a modest amount of members to participate in order to make a big
difference.  I'm challenging us to 100 pints with the help of friends.

So I am asking you to consider being a part of our campaign. All you need to
do is:

original announcement:]

1.	Choose a date when you can donate and make sure you give our Gotham
group number which is 62920 

a.	Tuesday, August 26th at the Blood Center 200 Park Avenue in the Met
Life Building above Grand Central Station from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

b.	Thursday, August 28th at the Milleridge Inn, Rt 106 Jericho, NY
(Long Island) 

c.	Or choose a date a date and time to go to the local blood center
nearest you with the Gotham group number - 62920- anytime between now and
August 28th     

d.	Our out-of-town groups in NJ, CT, Boston, LA, and Fla, can
participate in their state at a local blood center nearest them. 

2.	Contact friends, family, colleagues and invite them to join us for
our Gotham Gives Back: Give Blood campaign. 

a.	It's a unique way to network, get to know one another, impress a
client, and introduce new blood (pun intended) to Gotham. 

b.	Forward this email to your other list serves and centers of
influence. It's that easy:-) ! 

3.	Make sure you let the donation center know you are donating as part
of Gotham Gives Back: Give Blood campaign (give them our group number 62920)
so we can track our goals. 

4.	Show up for their appointment, roll up a sleeve, sit back, relax,
and enjoy the good feeling of knowing you are making a difference
