JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Position:                   Community Liaison

Location:                   Hunts Point Wastewater Treatment Plant


Overview:

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is in  
the process of performing a major upgrade and expansion of its Hunts  
Point Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), located in the Hunts Point  
neighborhood of the Bronx. As part of the upgrade, DEP is working  
closely with the Hunts Point Monitoring Committee (HPMC) on a range of  
issues related to the upgrade.  HPMC was established in 2004 and is  
comprised of appointed community stakeholders and representatives of  
elected officials. HPMC monitors the work of DEP and its various  
contractors and works closely with the agency to develop appropriate  
mitigation techniques and strategies.
Job Description:

The selected candidate will support HPMC in their duties and  
responsibilities. Specifically, the candidate will notify DEP and HPMC  
of problems arising from plant construction, prepare materials for  
monthly HPMC meetings and coordinate between DEP and HPMC on a variety  
of other issues related to the plant upgrade and DEP’s work in the  
Hunts Point community.


  Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years experience in community work or community centered  
activities; or high school diploma or equivalency and six years of  
experience in community work.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
Familiarity with the Bronx and Bronx-related issues
Bronx resident preferred
Bilingual/Spanish preferred
