Please read the below email. We were all in her situation and most did not
have a network like Gotham to give us a helping hand. Lisa is a very
impressive young lady who is the daughter of a friend. She is "Facing The
World" and I would like to try to help her. Please think of opportunities
or leads for her. She's the "Goods"! Thanks.

                                       Summer

Dear Fred,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. The process of
finding a summer job has been long and difficult, so your empathy is really
helpful. All I really want is to find an experience this summer where I
can
learn more about what kind of law I like and what kind of law I'm good at.

I graduated from Brown University in 2006 with a BA in Education Studies
and
Public Policy. I initially wanted to become a special education teacher,
but after spending a summer interning for the NYC Legal Aid Society,
Criminal Defense Division, I became interested in law. The experience was
so
great that when my boss from Legal Aid moved to a private criminal defense
firm on Long Island, she asked me to come and work for her, which I did for
two more summers. I ended up getting involved in the wrongful conviction
case of Marty Tankleff. Since I wasn't in law school yet, I had to teach
myself about legal research and criminal law. My biggest projects included
compiling research on over 100 wrongful conviction cases and assisting to
conduct jury investigations. Working on this case was a truly inspiring
experience because I got to see how much lawyers can help people and
ultimately be a part of the process that led to his recent exoneration.

During my first year of law school, I went to school in the evenings and
worked during the day as a research assistant for the University of
Connecticut Health Center's Center for Disabilities. During my time at the
Center for Disabilities, my work focused primarily on youth with
disabilities in the juvenile justice system. This past summer I worked as
a
law clerk for the NYC Department of Education, Special Education Unit
assisting in defending districts in special education suits brought by
parents. This past semester, I worked at the Center for Children's
Advocacy, Medical-Legal partnership as an intern where I conducted research
and wrote legal memos on health law issues pertaining to children with
disabilities.

All of these experiences combined have reaffirmed my interest in providing
legal advocacy for people who are in need of help. I think the best part
about being a lawyer is being able to solve people's problems. Ultimately,
as long as I'm working in an area of law where I can help people, I will be
happy because I will be contributing to a cause I care about. I am really
enjoy the adversarial nature of criminal law, but would really be
interested
in any type of law where I could work as an adversary and litigate. I
don't
think I would enjoy transactional law, but am open to the possibility. I am
taking trial advocacy this semester to see how much I would like being a
litigator and expanding my interest in public interest law as a member of
the University of Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal.

I hope this provides you with a better background about myself and I
haven't
taken too much of your time!

Sincerely,
Lisa
