[Fredslist] How to verify the authenticity of E-mail claims

Hey Gotham, 

We all get those forwarded emails asking us to take action or read how
[politician, celebrity, doctor] is involved in [put charge here]. Having
been burned on a number of them [NPR losing its funding comes to mind], I
now check the authenticity of absolutely every forwarded email on Snopes.com
(formerly UrbanLegends.com).

I go to Snopes, and do a search on everything before I share it: virus
rumors, missing children, Sarah Palin stories, congressional legislation,
toxins, street drugs, scams, advice-filled letters written by George Carlin,
Ben Stein, Winston Churchill.
