We stayed at the Kanapala Alii- Multi-million dollar condos for hotel rates. Its right across from Lanai ( the dole pineapple island) and on Hotel ROw, so dining is never a problem. Its a short ride to the local town of Lahaina and that's a great place to stroll for an evening or afternoon just to soak in Hawaii. We also did snooba at Molokini. Its a protected underwater park with tons of fish. If you can't Scuba, they have tanks that float with 20 ft. hoses so you can snorkel "Scuba", hence the name. That is an unbelievable thing- ya gotta do it there. 

The road to hana is an all day round trip like you've never done. You have to stop along the way to see the sights, so get a good guide book to know where to stop to see the waterfalls- plenty, and parks etc. then the pools at the end, so bring your bathing suit. 

You'll see all the hippies from our generation that dropped out and went to Hawaii to live the good life. They are even the deckhands on the dive boats- great shape for 60+!

Lastly, you got to get up at 3am and take the drive to the top of the volcano , Haleakala to see the sunrise. Hope there is no fog/clouds. We were bummed after a three hour ride and all we saw was the clouds getting brighter. If you want to bicycle down, I hear that's fun. I liked the drive.
