Hi,
I am teaching a photography class at ABC No Rio
<http://www.abcnorio.org/arts_ed/photo_02.html> this Spring. It starts
on
Saturday, and at the last minute the co-teacher has had to back out of
the
class. I wonder if you know anyone who might be interested in
co-teaching with me for all or some of the classes on a volunteer basis?
We are also currently one camera short the 5 that we need. If anyone
would be willing to lend a camera for the duration of the class, or
donate a camera to the darkroom for this and future use (ABC No Rio is a
5013c organization and all donations are tax deductible) it would be
very helpful. The camera needs to be manual SLR with an internal light
meter.
The class is for 14 -17 year olds. It's free for them, and we provide
cameras, chemicals, paper, and film, and teach them how to use manual
SLR
cameras, and how to develop and print black and white negatives. At the
end,
there is a show of their work in the gallery space. I did this last
Spring,
and it was really fun and rewarding. Also, if you are not familiar with
ABC No Rio, it is a fantastic organization -- a community arts center
that has
been operating on the Lower East Side since 1980, and which has a
darkroom,
print shop, gallery, small concert space -- all around an interesting
place
to be involved with.
The class starts this Saturday 4/19 and continues every Saturday between
11
and 2 until 6/21. I have a potential second teacher for the first class
and
a few of the other classes, but I would love for either (ideally)
someone to
be able to commit more consistently to the class, or someone who could
commit to the first three classes -- this Saturday (4/19), the following
Saturday (4/26), and then the Saturday after memorial day (5/3) because
those classes are the most teaching heavy -- teaching how to use the
cameras, how to develop film, and how to print images respectively.
If anyone is interested and wants to get in touch with me, please send
me an
email here (kdewitt at gmail.com) or give me a call (415 307 0682).
Thanks!
Kate
