Description: BACKGROUND

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts operates and licenses eleven theme parks on
three continents. It also operates 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise
ships, and a wide variety of other entertainment offerings.

The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online (WDPRO) Group oversees all of the
online web activities, e-commerce, online attractions and informational
sites representing the Walt Disney Company theme parks, resort hotel
properties and cruise lines This includes handling all online pre-arrival
arrangements, such as bookings. Consumers can also visit sites for exciting
online simulations of experiences at theme parks and resorts. Although part
of the Walt Disney Internet Group, the online technology group works closely
with management at the WDPRO organization.

The Walt Disney Internet Group is part of the Walt Disney Company, one of
the most of respected and successful entertainment companies in the world.
The company also operates the ABC Television Network; ESPN Sports Network;
the ABC Radio Networks; theme parks, resorts and cruise lines; television
and radio stations. It provides programming for the cable television
industry, publishes daily and weekly newspapers, shopping guides and
specialized periodicals. Annual revenues exceed $27 billion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Vice President of Technology, WDPRO, the Director of
Technology will oversee the development, delivery, and support of Internet
products and applications, including product and system design,
architectural fit and compliance, resource schedules and delivery
milestones, and overall product quality.

In addition, the Director of Technology with work with senior management and
the Walt Disney Internet Group to guide the evolution of the WDPRO
architecture, standards, tools and methodologies.

This position requires the ability to direct a variety of diverse – and
sometimes conflicting – requests, priorities, and activities. Candidates
will need mature management experience combined with the flexibility to
interact with people at all levels, within WDPRO and across the Walt Disney
Company.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides leadership in design, delivery, and support of WDPRO products and
systems

Provides engineering support to business units and external groups

Develops and manages effective working relationships with other departments,
groups and staff with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced.

Assists in creating and monitoring the set of policies that establish
standard development languages, tools, and methodology; documentation
practices; and examination procedures for developed systems to insure
alignment with overall architecture.

Assists in evaluating the technology staff.

Identifies and provides appropriate technology staff career paths throughout
the organization.

Participate in the broader Walt Disney Internet Group organization, and
ensure that, where possible, products are created in a platform-centric
manner.

EXPERIENCE

Candidates should have a Master's Degree in Computer Science or related
field (or equivalent experience). The candidate should have 10+ years
experience in software design, development and implementation, including web
application and enterprise development. Candidates must at least 5 years of
management experience with a proven track record of managing large teams of
technical people.

Experience in the travel industry would be a plus but is not essential.
Candidates should have experience with large, complex companies with matrix
environments.

They should understand how to motivate and to achieve ambitious goals. They
should have experience providing leadership in the evolution of the
sophisticated architecture. They should also have experience dealing
effectively with non-technical decision makers.
