Dear Colleagues - I am forwarding information on a Transportation
Conference being held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 sponsored by AARP
and New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC). Read
on......... Brochure is attached.

September 10, 2007

Dear Colleague:

When an older person loses the ability to drive, the isolation can be
devastating. Affordable, easy-to-use, and flexible transportation
options are essential for accessing health care services,
establishing and maintaining social and family contacts, and
preserving independence and general well being.

Last year, AARP and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council
(NYMTC), along with many other sponsors, produced an event at the
Rudin Center at NYU that delved into the challenges and best
practices for enhancing elder mobility. Due to its popularity and
capacity crowd, the decision was made to arrange events on the
regional level. AARP, NYMTC, and the School of Business SUNY Old
Westbury would like you to save the date of October 23, 2007 to
attend “Good to Go: Enhancing Senior Mobility in Your Community.”

This conference will highlight mobility concerns and bring together
professionals to discuss best practices for issues about driving,
transit and land use, and walkable communities. It will also provide
an opportunity for attendees to help identify community needs and
develop solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing older
New Yorkers.

Please mark your calendars and join us for “Good to Go: Enhancing
Senior Mobility in Your Community.” The conference will be held on
Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. – noon at SUNY Old Westbury
in the Campus Center, Recital Hall. Transportation will be provided
from Hicksville train station for those people who need it, and maps
are on the reverse side of this letter. You will receive an
invitation with an agenda in the mail in the coming weeks.

Who should attend the “Good to Go” conference?

Community, land use, and transportation planners
Transportation providers
Elected officials
Senior care service providers

This conference is sponsored by AARP and NYMTC and is made possible
through the efforts of many involved including Nassau and Suffolk
County and the Senior Umbrella Network of Nassau/Suffolk/ Queens and
Brooklyn. Special thanks to the Dr N.J. Delener, Dean and Professor,
School of Business at SUNY Old Westbury for sponsoring the event and
