Hi Gotham:

Last night at 9:30PM and on my way home to LI from the city
I called my mom. There was no answer and so I stopped by
her apt in Forest Hills.

I found her lying on the floor, blood from a head laceration
pooled and dry beneath her. She had fallen and broke her
hip in the process.

She does not have a "First Alert" button/pendant and so she
stayed on the floor, totally unable to move
for many hours. She'd be there still if I was away / hadn't
stopped by.

So, for everyone out there with an aging parent, be smarter
than I and make certain that your parent has some "First
Alert" pendant. It scares me to think what might have
happened if I had not made the decision to "check in " last
night.

Two, does anyone have a contact at North Shore or can anyone
explain the ropes to me? I am a total neophyte when it comes
to hospitals. My mom is in the ER; they say they have no
rooms. She's going to have surgery and then I imagine she
will need rehab.

Does anyone know a good place for her after the hospital and
surgery.

Thanks,
Adrian
