Hello Fellow Gothamites:
Help me to help you!
If you're like me, you get over 300 emails per day (not counting spam), so
when I get the "Gotham Digest", I skim the subject headers to see if
anything is of interest to me, or if there's anything I may be able to help
someone with. I have to do this in less than 10 seconds, or it won't get
done at all.
I may be able to help you, but how will I know if the gist of your request
is buried in the email text? Please put it in the header!
You should include IN THE SUBJECT:
WHY and WHAT -- why are you writing this? What's it about?
WHEN -- is there a deadline?
WHO, WHERE and HOW -- if appropriate
Examples:
BAD: "Volunteers Needed"
GOOD: "Volunteers Needed to Staff Central Park Water Table for AIDS
Walk Sept 1"
BAD: "Can you help?"
GOOD: "I need office space in Manhattan for 3 months starting in September"
BAD: "Attorney Wanted"
GOOD: "Litigation attorney wanted for friend being sued by ex-husband"
You get the picture.
Thanks!
Renee Colwell
