[Fredslist] College access programs for low income students ?

Gotham, 

A high-school senior from Bed- Stuy needs resources that can help her
identify the right college for her, support her in the application process
and direct her to education funding. Good in science although a late bloomer
academically, she wants to study nursing / health sciences.

I know about the Posse Foundation and BEAMS, and am making inquiries there.

Does anybody have some experiences, thoughts and references to share?
