Many of you know of my involvement with charitable organizations and giving back to the community. My most recent endeavor relates to Children with Autism, also called autistic disorder, which appears in early childhood, usually before age 3. Autism prevents children and adolescents from interacting normally with other people and affects almost every aspect of their social and psychological development.

On Thursday, September 15th, 2007 at 7:00 PM, I will be honored by Wyckoff Hospital Medical Center as "Man of the Year" at the 62nd annual Harvest Moon Ball dinner at Stage 6 in Steiner Studios, in Brooklyn for my charitable services in building hope for the children on New York City.

I am humbled by this recognition and ask you to join me that evening for what will be a special event to raise money for an important cause. Some 600 people will attend this gala dinner and it would be wonderful if you were a part of it.

Please consider attending. If you are unable to do so, please consider contributing to this event through a donation or sponsorship in recognition of my efforts and to help further grow the Autism Awareness and Advocacy Program at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

You can also register at http://www.wyckoffhospital.org/development <http://www.wyckoffhospital.org/body.cfm?id=497> .

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact me. Thank you for your friendship and support and please forward to all your friends.

Warmest Regards,

Justin

About the new Autism Advocacy and Awareness Program:

Congress has provided over $900 million over the next five years for autism research, screenings, treatment and education. Autism is a lifetime neurobiological disorder affecting 1 in 150 births* (roughly 1.5 million Americans). It impairs a child's ability to communicate with and relate to others. Currently more common than pediatric cancer, autism is increasing at a rate of 10-17% annually**. Early diagnosis and intervention is the key to gain maximum improvement and reduce the costs of lifelong care.

Among the ¼ million people Wyckoff Heights Medical Center (WHMC) serves, 4 neighborhoods in its catchments are federally designated as medically underserved and "health professional shortage areas." For these parents, obtaining a diagnosis for autism is very difficult. WHMC is proud to announce the Autism Advocacy and Awareness Program. Accents of the program's mission include:

*         raise the community awareness of autism spectrum disorder;

*         increase knowledge of early warning signs among pediatric and family practitioners and medical students to facilitate timely referrals;

*         facilitate access to early autism-specific intervention in order to maximize a child's capacity to reach his/her full potential;

*         become a communication center for new programs and services for autistic children;

* strengthen families by establishing network of support for the newly diagnosed; and

* pursue funding opportunities to support future initiatives to support children with autism.

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a voluntary not-for-profit, private, teaching hospital serving Brooklyn and Queens communities since 1889. Wyckoff has received awards for Pulmonary Care Excellence, JCAHO accreditation with commendation, awards for Patient Safety, Quality Signature Improvement and Outstanding Physician Performance and is a New York State Department of Health Designated Stroke Center. The faculty support training for over 200 residents and 300 medical students from across the globe. Wyckoff's premier service is Bloodless Medicine and Surgery and its Language Assistance Program is the first of its kind in the country. WHMC is an invaluable resource to the communities it serves with more than 225,000 people annually receiving comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care. In order to continue its healing work, Wyckoff relies on the support of its friends, corporations and private individuals to continue to provide the most comprehensive health care services possible.
