[Fredslist] Larry Hertz

I had forgotten that Larry Hertz joined Gotham a few years ago at my
suggestion.  Larry's funeral was this morning.

Larry and his wife, Bettina Hindin, are dear friends of my life partner,
Steve Klein, and me.  The four of us shared many good times together.  Steve
and I like to cook and Larry and Tina like to eat, so it was a perfect
match.

I met Larry years ago when we served together on the board of a
not-for-profit.  I was the President and Larry was the Secretary.  I relied
heavily on Larry for his wise counsel in dealing with some difficult issues
that fractured the board. 

Larry was a talented attorney.  He was one of the first attorneys to develop
a practice in cyber law and publish a treatise in that area.

Most importantly, Larry was a loving father to his two young children,
Jordan, 10, and Arianna, whose seventh birthday was Saturday.  One of their
happiest memories will surely be the trip Larry took them on a few months
ago to Hawaii.    

Larry valiantly fought cancer for seven years.  I refuse to say that he lost
the battle because I am convinced he lasted much longer than the doctors
expected because of his determination to live and be part of his children's
lives.  I am so happy that he was able to do that.
