[Fredslist] Thanks to two fabulous Gothamites: Bob Sommerfield and Scott Bloom

Here's toasting to two of Gotham's true jewels: Bob Sommerfield
(Westchester Group) and Scott Bloom (Commerce Group).
About a month ago, I put out a call on Freds List for pro bono
assistance to review and negotiate a commercial sublease for the
not-for-profit environmental group of which I am the Chairman of the
Board, INFORM (www.informinc.org). I soon almost had to put out a
"Renatto" on the request, so inundated was I with help - among the
first, were Bob Sommerfield, real estate attorney, Westchester Group,
and Scott Bloom, real estate broker, Commerce Group, neither of whom had
I ever had the pleasure of meeting even casually. A sublease
negotiation is more significant than you might think, because in
addition to that document, you have to review the main or overlease,
here a document of 60 or 70 pages (standard for a Manhattan office
building). Bob, and Scott (who offered to find a real estate attorney
to go with his broker's eye for the sublease, before he knew I had Bob
to do that) were magnificent - this was no "once over lightly." They
treated this job as if they were negotiating a $100 million real estate
deal - careful and precise in every way, relentless with detail,
suitably aggressive in negotiating, great in listening to what was
important (or not) for the client. We concluded negotiations very
expeditiously, and timely to give notice to our current sublease
landlord, avoid an additional month's rent in our old space, and move
timely with our bringing a new Executive Director on board. I'm really
overwhelmed, as a lawyer who admires such excellence, as an overworked
Chairman of INFORM who appreciates any help (especially at no cost), and
as a Gothamite. In case you don't know it, Gotham rocks! (Thanks also
to my pal, Gothamite Ken Jewell, who also volunteered, and forgive me
for not having handy the names to thank others who offered to help!)
