[Fredslist] Mixing it up between Gotham NYC and L.I. Gothamites

At the Gotham NYC Incubator on Wednesday, ably organized by Linda "Queenie"
Newman, a bunch of us from various Gotham groups sat at a table in the
Friars Club and discussed different aspects of Gotham. One point I raised
(so of course Fred insisted that I post it here) was an observation that --
at least from the perspective of this member of Gotham Long Island -- there
is not quite enough connection among members of the NYC-based Gotham groups
and those of L.I.-based Gotham groups, and increasing this likely would
benefit all. I imagine that this disconnect would be felt even more
distinctly by members of Gotham groups based outside the immediate NY metro
area.

How to remedy this, at least for those in fairly close proximity? I'd
suggest that members from different Gotham groups should actively invite
members from other groups to "Ride the Circuit" and visit a meeting of
another group (with permission of the group coordinator, who screens for
conflicts as required by most groups). A NYC Gothamite can invite a friend
from L.I. to visit his or her group, or possibly even invite someone from
L.I. whom they don't know but might like to meet, based on the invitee's
Gotham Networking website profile. And perhaps Long Islanders can convince
some city-based members to visit our groups (possibly en route to a weekend
out east in the Hamptons).

One of the triggers for my comment during the Incubator about the need for
greater "miscegenation" among city and suburban members was that Susan
Sommers, a member of Gotham Women's Group (who I met recently and became
friendly with when we both took Mike Landrum's public speaking coaching
seminar in the city), kindly invited and encouraged me to visit her group.
I did visit the Gotham Women's Group for their lunch meeting at the Friars
Club this Wednesday, had a very good time, and met a lot of interesting,
quality, friendly people (and I commend the group to anyone considering
Riding the Circuit, regardless of where you're based).

I hereby issue an invitation: Anyone from the city who is interested in
Riding the Circuit to visit Gotham L.I. at our next meeting, on Thursday
morning, July 13, at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho, whether we know each
other or not -- please e-mail or call me and I'll assist you in setting it
up through our group coordinator (assuming no conflicts), and I'll be happy
to introduce you around to our members at the meeting. I hope other more
individual invitations follow, offlist.

Best regards, and Happy Fathers Day,

David Abeshouse
