LUNCH WITH ROBERT LEVIN, FOUNDER OF THE NEW YORK ENTERPRISE REPORT

							By Susan Sommers

What are the best days for sending out an email newsletter? Tuesdays,
Wednesdays or Thursdays, says Robert Levin, the guest speaker at Gotham
Networking’s January 18th luncheon, held at the Friar’s Club. And, as
founder of The New York Enterprise Report—a monthly publication and
website he started in 2003, offering new and tried-and-true business
advice designed to help small and midsize businesses in the NY metro
area grow –Levin should know. His tip-filled talk echoed the “how-to”
format of The Report’s features, which are all written by recognized
business experts. In a scant hour, Levin discussed best practices in
e-mail newsletters and sales, Internet and event marketing.

For those of you who couldn’t attend this informative seminar, here’s a
rundown of some of Levin’s suggestions by category:

♣	Sales. Go Negative: Try to talk a potential client out of your
product or services with a comment like, “I don’t think this is right
for you.” Often, the response will be positive. If it’s not, you’ll
know that you don’t have to waste your time any longer pursuing this
prospect.
♣	Advertising. It’s all about repetition and that can be expensive. Use
advertising only you can afford it.
♣	Event Marketing. Don’t do events unless you have the manpower to
manage them. When you do, capture data at events and make what you do
all about the attendees. Ask questions, get business cards, take notes
and enter information into a contact management system so it’s
searchable.
♣	Email newsletters. Have subscribers opt in and make sure it’s easy
for them to opt out.

For more in-depth information, visit Levin’s website. The good news is
Gotham members located in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut can
receive a complimentary subscription to The New York Enterprise Report
by signing up at http://www.nyreport.com/gotham. Levin also invites
anyone with a question about running his or her business to submit it
to expert at nyreport.com. If your question is selected, your name, title,
and company name will appear along with the answer from their experts,
which is also a great way to get exposure.
