To think that we have come all this way as a nation to find equality for
one and all.
With TV being such a critical media, what will the young think when they
watch a show such as this???
Who makes such decisions??

This is absolutely outrageous. How is pitting one racial group against
another an example of "diversity?" That's not what "diversity" means.
I'm also afraid that it will encourage racist and racialist thinking in
many people by which viewers from each racial group will be tempted to
view the competition as one symbolizing the relative "superiority" of
one racial group over another in some field or another. (Depending on
the results, of course, it may also reinforce the worst types of racial
stereotypes that have been embedded in people's minds, but that's
actually a slightly different issue.)
Mike, this sounds like some kind of sick joke. Are you serious?

Hello along the network,
I hope everyone has had a good week.
I am the board of directors of Black Public Relations
Society-New York, as Vice
President of Special Events. Furthering racial diversity in the
entertainment industry is
a high priority in my organization's mandate.
CBS has just announced that the new season of "Survivor" will
pit a team of white
contestants, a team of African-American contestants, a team of
Hispanic contestants,
and a team of Asian contestants against each other in
competition. Host Jeff Probst
has said that the move is in reaction to complaints from viewers
saying that there has
not been enough racial diversity in the casting of "Survivor."
Here's the question: Is the format for the new season of
"Survivor" a creative answer
to complaints that the show has not exhibited enough racial
diversity or stunt casting
and in poor taste?
What do you think, Gotham?
This issue will certainly be under discussion among my board
members over the next
few weeks. I am very interested in finding out how the diverse
cross section of the
population Gotham represents feels about what CBS has put into
play for viewer
consumption.
Thanks very much for your input, Gotham.
Have a most excellent weekend.
See you on the circuit.
