Dear Fellow Gothamites,

This is a request sent to me by a friend, Alice Garrard, who is trying to help a neighbor...

With her family's blessing, I'm beginning to look into finding out if my elderly neighbor (Nancy, for those of you who live in the neighborhood) can get Medicaid (she now has Medicare) and any kind of assistance through the city. She lives on about $800 a month and is in good physical health for someone who is almost 94, but her mind and memory are getting shakier by the day and she needs help in keeping her apartment clean and in walking. Access-a-Ride has been great for her for getting to and from the local senior center and her daughter and son-in-law's home in Staten Island. Her daughter, however, is not well and isn't able to do a lot for Nancy right now. If you have any suggestions or can point me toward a knowledgeable person or useful Web site, I'd be grateful. Please forward this to anyone you know who might have some ideas.

Thanks,
Alice
