Please take the time to scrutinize this email-especially if you have young children! I applaud the Otis family initiative and the music is great too (I listened to the CD).

Subject: [Fredslist] Music Talking-Safe music for kids 6-11

For those of you who were not at the Diversity Group meeting 4/18, we heard from a company that is addressing the issue of the trashy music our kids are exposed to by mining the good stuff and putting it together in a smart way.  We were treated to a presentation by this new company, Music Talking, and I think that we should rally around them.  Listed below is a description of the company and what it does.

Music is a universal medium but there are very few music choices available for children transitioning between “G-rated” Kidz Bop-type products and “PG-13-rated” MTV.  MusicTalking™ produces smart CD and Companion Guide compilations designed to promote family dialogue and positive character development in children.  MusicTalking™ delivers a unique mix of good music.  It’s good music that’s appropriate for a family barbeque, a children’s party or for a car ride.  There are no other products on the market combining popular hit music with Talking Tools™ allowing parents to use the music to deliver life lessons to their children.  By using music as the medium, parents have the opportunity to have light but meaningful conversations with their kids, while passing down family values and morals.

MusicTalking’s recent release, About Goals & Values, has received four parent awards in the last year.  Original hit songs – no remakes - like “Respect,” “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades,” “Swinging On A Star” and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” are paired with the Companion Guide’s “Talking Tools™ which provides parents with the lyrics, artist information, expert guidance, points for discussion and helpful tips to talk to their kids without sounding preachy.  MusicTalking’s mission is to expose children to a broad range of fun, upbeat classic hits—songs parents know and kids will love—that also have important messages.

We can help this company out by providing them with any contacts we have to fundraising groups such as local PTAs, Boy/Girl Scout organizations and other civic fundraising groups as well as retail buyers at non-traditional retail outlets (like R&S Strauss, highway travel centers and amusement park gift shops).  Their product would also be ideal for the Scholastic Book Fair.  Does anyone have connections that would help them get their product onto Scholastic’s radar?
