To the Gotham Community:

My daughter, Lauren Berger, graduated NYU magna cum laude with a concentration in theatrical direction. She is currently interning for the management of the show "STOMP." As those of you lucky enough to have attended her production of Neal LaButte's "Bash" are aware, Lauren is also an aspiring theatrical director and producer. She has, in the past, received a great deal of support from various Gothamites. Recently, Lauren was brought on board as an Associate Producer to help with a very exciting project. "The Shaggs", a new musical, which opens next week at the New York Musical Theatre Festival. "Shaggs" is in need of additional last-minute funding. Any donation, no matter how small, may be tax deductible and would be a valuable contribution to this exciting show. Please find below additional information on "The Shaggs" and the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Lauren can be reached on her Cell: (516) 241-1275

"The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World" is a new musical being presented at NYMF by PenneySeal Productions and AWOL Theatre Project, Inc. Created by Joy Gregory (writer/lyricist) and Gunnar Madsen (composer/lyricist) and directed by John Langs, "The Shaggs" is "the dramatic true story of the world's most famous obscure band." Forced by a demanding father, the three very awkward sisters of the Wiggin family of Fremont, New Hampshire were prepped to play in a band based on a prophecy laid out by their grandmother. Existing in obscurity until the death of the father, The Shaggs disbanded and were not heard of until the mid-seventies when a Boston radio station picked them up and Frank Zappa spurred them on to fame, declaring them "better than the Beatles."

"The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World" is playing at Theatre Row in the Beckett Theater at the following times:

Tuesday, Sept 27 @ 8PM
Wednesday, Sept 28 @ 8PM
Thursday, Sept 29 @ 8PM
Friday, Sept 30 @ 8PM
Saturday, Oct 1 @ 8PM
Sunday, Oct 2 @ 1PM & 4PM

Tickets are only $15 (See it now before it's $100 for a Broadway ticket) and can be purchased by going to Theatermania.com

New York Musical Theatre Festival is a festival of new musicals which selects only 18 shows from almost 400 submissions to be a part of its Next Link series. The idea behind this series is that NYMF is the next step - or next link - toward the future of these musicals. Of the 18 selected for last year's festival, four have already moved toward commercial productions (Off-Broadway or beyond)! In other words, NYMF is an exclusive collection of the most promising new musicals. (You may have seen "Altar Boyz" - it started at NYMF).

You can support the arts in NYC either by sending a contribution by mail to AWOL Theatre Project Inc. c/o PenneySeal Productions 24-06 29th Street, Astoria NY
11102 OR you can donate online at www.JustGive.org and use the "Search for a Charity" tool to search for "AWOL Project Inc.". Be sure to designate your donation for PenneySeal.

Thank you. Ennid Berger
