Don¹t Get Caught Off-Guard with Fees, Penalties and Unwanted Liability
 
This seminar will address a law that requires businesses to file for and pay
sales and use tax on items purchased out of state.  Many businesses are not
aware of this and are opening themselves up to real tax liabilities both at
the entity and personal level.  Here¹s what participants will learn:
 
·        Do¹s and don¹ts regarding state sales tax issues
·        What qualifies for sales tax and what doesn¹t
·        The various types of business structures and the personal
liabilities associated with each
·        Officer, partner or member personal liability
·        What to do if the government decides to audit your records
 
About the speaker:
 
Barry Horowitz, CPA, MS , is head of the state and local tax department at
Eisner & Lubin, a full-services accounting and consulting firm, and a
recognized expert on sales and use tax issues.
 
In terms of your specific questions:
 
What¹s the ultimate goal/benefit the attendee will receive from your
seminar?  The benefit for participants would be to gain a thorough
understanding of the sales tax rules to protect themselves from significant
liabilities and potential trouble and to learn how best to structure a
business for maximum liability protection..

Why will they want to attend? Anyone who is a business owner/manager or has
any involvement in the financial operations of a business or responsibility
for order goods, supplies or products from out of state should be aware of
these issues.

Who will benefit most from your seminar? Anyone who runs or manages a
business and has a financial stake in its operations.
 
Is there specific demographic / age group that has the most to gain? Or the
most to lose by not learning?  Not particularly, see above answer.

What problem will they be able to solve on their own once they¹ve attended?
Attendees will become aware of the sales tax implications of order products
from out of state and will be better prepared to protect themselves and
their companies from significant tax liabilities.

What problem do they have that they may not even be aware of? How will you
help them become aware of that problem---and the ramifications of not fixing
it?  The problem that they probably don¹t know they have is that they are
required by law to pay state sales tax on items purchased from out of state.
This was no the case until recently.  Many small to mid-sized businesses are
not aware of this and may get hit with unexpected tax bills and penalties
and fees as a result.
