<![CDATA[Rona Gura added new blog post]]>In my blog last week I mentioned that my daughter, and her new husband, very recently went to Greece for their honeymoon. What I did not mention was how, through modern technology, I was essentially able to check in on them throughout their trip. First, I was able to track their flight through Flightaware. My daughter went to SUNY Buffalo so she is very used to me tracking her flights, which I would do when she would fly back to school. She habitually gives me her flight information when she is travelling. Once she landed, I texted her through WhatsApp to let her know that I knew that she landed safely. Thereafter, as a part of our gift to her, we pay the extra fee for her to use her cell phone while she’s in Europe. Whether that’s a gift to her or me, I’m not sure. But she did text me several times during her trip. Lastly, I can see her photos as she posts them on Instragram and Snapchat. It’s difficult to turn off being a Mom even when your child gets married. As long as she, and my son-in-law, don’t mind I’ll continue to keep tabs on them from the discrete distance afforded to me from technology. Any thoughts?

<![CDATA[Rona Gura added new blog post]]>My daughter and her husband are currently in Greece on their honeymoon. Wikipedia defines a honeymoon as “a holiday taken by newlyweds after their wedding to celebrate their marriage.” My husband and I took two honeymoons. It’s a second marriage for both of us wherein we were blending a family of two children each. So, immediately, after we got married, we went alone together to Las Vegas for a few days. Thereafter, we took all four children on a cruise for our “family honeymoon.” Our instincts to take two honeymoons worked perfectly for our family. The few days alone in Las Vegas gave us time to relax and recharge. The cruise, on the other hand, really helped to bring our family together and make the children feel that they were part of the process of blending the two families. Where did you go on your honeymoon?

<![CDATA[Rona Gura added new blog post]]>Tonight marks the beginning of Passover. As we host both Sedars, my husband and I spent all day Sunday preparing. The first step in preparation was to take out, from our storage closet, our Sedar plates, matzoh plates, and matzoh covers. As I was handling each item I was struck by the length of time we had been using them and what they each mean to me. The matzoh cover we use for our Sedar was made by my daughter Calli when she was three years old in nursery school. She is now thirty-three years old. It struck me that the cover is thirty years old. It has been a part of our Sedars for thirty years. It is difficult to remember a time when that paper matzoh cover was not sitting on our Sedar table. I love traditions surrounding the holidays. And I hope that the paper matzoh cover gets used by our children as part of their Passover traditions. What are some of your families’ traditions? Happy Passover to all who celebrate!!!
