Proud Grandpa
Posted By : Fred Klein

This past week has been epic for my grandson Shawn Atom. One could describe it as a "Hat Trick" as he culminated his 7 year quest to become an Eagle Scout (achieved by only 4% of all Boy Scouts), decided to attend the venerable engineering program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and and is attempting to find a vocalist so his band can enter Got

Travel Jinx or entertaining travel partner?
Posted By : Crysti Farra

Every family has one member that is known for something in particular.   I AM THE TRAVEL NIGHTMARE!!!! From late to canceled flights, lost luggage, COVID while traveling, having to sleep overnight in an airport, trajectory of door plugs canceling a full fleet of airplanes...you name it, it has all happened around me! One of the craziest stories to

The Chart Room
Posted By : Fred Klein

There is a unique dive bar in Key West called The Chart Room. I learned of it reading Key West Lou's blog. It is hidden away in the bowels of The Pier House at the end of Duval Street.   It has quite a storied history, including Mel Fisher, Jimmy Buffet and many other Key West characters and luminaries.  To me The Chart Room is the closest approxim

Vacay stress
Posted By : Crysti Farra

If you are like me (and most of the self employed working world) you both look forward to and somewhat dread vacation time.  Why? Because you work like a crazy person before vacation so you can enjoy your time away, knowing when you return you will just have to "rinse and repeat"! We were away for 2 weeks. i spent the first couple of days acclimati

I find mattress shopping to be THE WORST experience. I know some companies have a try for 60 day option, but still, that is not ideal unless you are going to store your old mattress somewhere in case the new one needs to be returned. I have said for a long time that they should have a "weekend" house where you can try out a mattress for a few days before buying it@!

Our New New Bed
Posted By : Fred Klein

Recently we bought a new mattress. The process was a complex one during which we were tested and we tested many mattress options.   Price aside (inflation is real), it was a complicated trial and error process. Eventually we decided on a thick pillow top mattress with new (full) box springs.   Then it happened, our new bed was delivered and assembl

Personally, the pandemic did not slow me down much. Mainly because Social Security didn't slow down much. That being said, the office is definitely my preferred space. But like you, if I need undisturbed time, the home office it is!

The In-Office Experience
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Coming out of the pandemic (although I’m not sure we ever really have come out of the pandemic), I’ve learned that I really like my time in the office.  The hustle, bustle and plain social nature of being around a group is just plain fun.      I am convinced I learn more in the office as well – even at this stage in my career.  There is no substi

Blessed to be Stressed
Posted By : Crysti Farra

As I sit in a hotel room in Woodlawn, MD tonight, preparing for what might be the most consequential meeting of my career, I ponder the meaning of my work. Am I stressed? You bet I am!  Do I work too many hours? Absolutely! Do I have work life balance? Arguably, many would say a resounding NO!  HOWEVER, knowing that as I meet tomorrow with the Comm
