As some of you know, my daughter was born premature by over 3 months and was in the hospital for those 3+ months until her due date. My wife has gotten involved with March of Dimes, which offers services to other similarly-situated families, and she is doing an annual fundraiser for March of Dimes. The following is her letter:
I am again asking for your help. I am hoping we can continue to help raising money to save the lives of these tiny fighters and watch miracles happen before our eyes.
Premature birth is the #1 killer of babies in the United States. Those who survive can face a lifetime of serious health problems. With your support, we can give help to the hundreds of thousands of babies born prematurely now and bring hope for the millions more yet to come!
My daughter Lauren Victoria was born a micro-preemie at 25 weeks 2 days, weighing 1 lb 4 ounces (weight of a water bottle) approximately 10 inches long. She spent 103 days in the NICU during which time she fought every day of her life to be able to come home. At this point she has had 2 laser eye surgeries (in the NICU), 4 eye surgeries (after the NICU), numerous blood transfusions, was on a vent and c-pap for months as she was unable to breath on her own. She stopped breathing many times and had to be resuscitated. She developed ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) and is now legally blind. She fought to live and now I fight to give her the best life I can. Your support in this cause can help save the lives of many other tiny fighters like my Lauren!
At 2 ½ years old Lauren is still behind in terms of milestones and development but all of the support and services she receives helps her achieve all she can. She is now beginning to babble, copy and soon will be able to express herself on some level. She never really did crawl but is not learning to cruise and walk, getting a little better each day. Sight plays a part in each and every aspect of development and causes like the March of Dimes allow research and developments to help her learn to overcome such struggles and obstacles. If raising money for such a cause can prevent other mommies and their babies have to endure such hardship then I will do all I can, as it is harder than I could ever express.
This problem is too important to ignore. That’s why I am asking you to sponsor my fundraising event. Donating online is fast, easy and secure, either directly from my page at https://www.marchforbabies.org/laurensmom822 with a credit/debit card, PayPal or Amazon Payment, or by sending me cash or a check.
By raising money, I am helping the March of Dimes fund important research to find out why premature birth happens and what can be done to prevent it. This research is the first step to saving many tiny lives.
Thank You so very much,
